1.     What is extraction?

  -The procedure of removal of the tooth from its socket which is performed for a wide variety of reasons but commonly on those teeth which have become unrestorable.

2.     What leads to extractions?

       -There are many reasons which lead to extraction of tooth, such as

o   GROSSLY DECAYED TOOTH

o   SUPERNUMERARY TEETH (which are blocking other teeth from eruption)

o   CROWDING (in preparation for orthodontic treatment)

o   WISDOM TOOTH (eruption of 3rd molars)

o   REMAINING ROOTS OF DECAYED TEETH

 

3.     Are tooth extractions painful?

o   During the procedure, due to the action of local anesthesia you won’t feel any pain.

o   After the procedure the soreness and little discomfort will vanish in a day or two.

 

4.     How long does it take to recover from tooth extraction??

o   Soreness, swelling and discomfort will go after a day or two.

o   After the extraction for the gum tissues to heal it takes about 3 to 4 weeks and the bone takes upto 6months.

 

5.     What not to eat after tooth extraction??

o   Spicy, hot, acidic, crunchy foods should be avoided.

o   Ice-creams, juices, smoothies scrambled eggs can be eaten.

o   Tea, coffee should be avoided or cooled down to room temperature before consumption.

 

6.     What is your duty prior to the extraction?

        -Inform the doctor if you have any medical issues or are under any               medications.
